When Should You Book Your Removal Company?

When to Book Removals: The Optimal Timeline

Getting your timing right can save you money and reduce stress. Here's what we recommend.

The Ideal Timeline

When What to Do
8-10 weeks before Start getting quotes and shortlisting companies
6-8 weeks before Confirm your booking and pay any deposit
4-6 weeks before Start packing non-essential items
2 weeks before Confirm all details with your removal company
1 week before Final packing, label everything
Day before Dismantle furniture, protect floors

Why Early Booking Matters

Better availability. The best companies get booked up, especially during peak periods. Booking 6-8 weeks ahead gives you your pick of dates and times.

Lower prices. Some companies offer early-booking discounts. More importantly, you avoid the "last-minute premium" that comes with limited availability.

Less stress. Knowing your removals are sorted lets you focus on everything else — solicitors, utilities, change of address, etc.

When Is It Too Late?

It's never technically too late, but:

  • Under 2 weeks: Limited choice, potentially higher prices
  • Under 1 week: You'll likely pay a premium and may only have one option
  • Under 48 hours: Possible, but expensive and stressful

Peak Periods to Watch

These are the busiest times for removal companies — book even earlier if your move falls in these periods:

  • June to September (summer holidays, end of tenancies)
  • Last week of any month (tenancy changeover)
  • Friday and Saturday (most popular moving days)
  • Bank holiday weekends (school holiday moves)
  • Late September (university moves)

Our Advice

Book as soon as you have a confirmed moving date. Even a provisional booking secures your slot. Most companies let you adjust the date if things change.
