A shared load only leaves once the operator has enough Malta-bound goods, so ask how often each company actually runs the route.
Access Is the Real Cost Driver
Many Maltese homes are in narrow streets, older townhouses and apartment blocks without lifts or with very small ones. Large pieces sometimes have to be hoisted up through a balcony or window, and parking a removal vehicle outside can need a permit.
Tell every remover your exact address, floor and whether there is a lift, and ask whether their price includes a smaller shuttle vehicle and any hoisting. These are the charges most often added after the quote.
Customs and Paperwork After Brexit
A UK to Malta move is an import into the EU. Used household goods are normally free of duty and Maltese VAT under transfer-of-residence relief, provided you are genuinely moving your home to Malta and have owned and used the goods for at least six months.
You will need a detailed valued inventory, your passport, proof of your Maltese address and evidence of your residence status.
Residence for UK Nationals
UK nationals arriving now are third-country nationals. Residence is handled by Identità (formerly Identity Malta), and there are several routes, including programmes for retirees, remote workers and people with their own income. What Makes Malta Easier
Malta drives on the left, so a right-hand-drive UK car is practical there, although it still has to be registered locally.
Malta uses UK-style three-pin plugs, so British appliances work without adapters.
Pets
Dogs, cats and ferrets need a microchip, a rabies vaccination and an animal health certificate issued within 10 days of travel. Dogs must also be treated for tapeworm by a vet between one and five days before arriving in Malta. The treatment must be recorded on the health certificate.
