Our UK calculator can't price international moves — routes, crossings and customs make every job different. Instead, tell us the basics and we'll match your move with removal companies that run your route, in either direction.
How UK ⇄ Europe Moves Work
Shared load vs dedicated vehicle
The single biggest price decision. A shared (part) load puts your belongings on a lorry with other households heading the same way — 30–50% cheaper, but delivery comes as a window of days rather than a fixed date. A dedicated vehicle costs more and delivers on schedule. If your dates are flexible, always price both.
Customs since Brexit
Every UK–EU move now involves a customs declaration and a detailed inventory. Moving to the UK, apply for HMRC's Transfer of Residence (ToR1) relief before the move — it removes import duty and VAT on personal belongings. Moving to the EU, most countries offer an equivalent relief when you transfer your main residence. A good international remover prepares the paperwork; confirm it's included in the quote.
What to look for in a quote
Check the quote covers: export packing, the crossing (Channel Tunnel or ferry), customs handling on both sides, delivery to room (not kerbside), and marine/transit insurance rated for international moves. The cheapest quote missing two of these isn't the cheapest quote.
Timing
Dedicated vehicles reach France or Belgium in 1–3 days, Spain or Poland in 3–5, Scandinavia within a week. Book 4–8 weeks ahead — good European movers schedule routes in advance, and shared-load spots on popular corridors fill early in summer.

European Moving FAQs
How much does it cost to move from the UK to Europe?+
A studio or 1-bed move to nearby countries (France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany) typically costs £1,000–£3,800 depending on shared load vs dedicated vehicle. A 3-bed home runs £2,600–£7,500 for near Europe and up to £10,000 for Scandinavia. Prices usually include packing, the Channel crossing, transport and delivery.
What is a shared load (part load) for a European move?+
Your belongings share lorry space with other households moving along the same route, and you split the transport cost. Shared loads are typically 30–50% cheaper than a dedicated vehicle, but delivery windows are wider — usually a few days to two weeks rather than a fixed date.
What customs paperwork do I need to move belongings from the EU to the UK?+
Personal belongings moved as part of a genuine relocation to the UK can qualify for Transfer of Residence (ToR1) relief, which removes import duty and VAT. Apply to HMRC online before the move — approval gives you a unique reference number your removal company needs. Without it, your goods can be held at the border and taxed.
Do I pay customs charges moving from the UK to the EU?+
Since Brexit, moves to the EU require a customs declaration and a detailed inventory, but most EU countries offer relief from import duty on used personal belongings when you're transferring your main residence — each country has its own scheme and conditions. A good international remover handles the paperwork; always ask exactly what's included.
How long does a UK to Europe move take?+
A dedicated vehicle to France, Belgium, the Netherlands or western Germany typically delivers in 1–3 days. Spain, Italy and Poland run 3–5 days, and Scandinavia up to a week. Shared loads add flexibility to those windows — expect a delivery window rather than a fixed day.
