Part Loads and Single Items
Poland sees an unusual amount of part-load and single-item traffic — a few rooms of furniture rather than a whole household, or items being returned to family. If that is your situation, say so explicitly when requesting quotes. Operators running regular scheduled Poland services can often price a small consignment far better than a general international remover treating it as a one-off.
Van-based operators are common on this route. They can be excellent value, but check goods-in-transit insurance and confirm what happens if the vehicle is delayed at the border.
Customs and Paperwork After Brexit
A UK to Poland move is an EU import. Used household goods are normally exempt from duty and Polish VAT under transfer-of-residence relief when you have owned and used them for at least six months and are genuinely relocating.
You will need a detailed valued inventory, ideally in Polish, proof of your Polish address, passport and proof of prior ownership.
PESEL and Registration
The PESEL is Poland's national identification number, needed for banking, healthcare, tax and most administrative processes. You obtain it when registering your residence (zameldowanie) at the local municipal office.
Registration requires proof of your address, usually a rental contract or property deed with the landlord's consent to register. As in the Netherlands, not every landlord will agree, so confirm this before signing.
Housing and What to Ship
Polish rentals are frequently furnished or part-furnished, which is different from Germany or Denmark and affects what is worth shipping. If you are moving into a furnished flat, shipping a full household of furniture may be wasted volume.
Older apartment blocks often have small lifts or none at all, and narrow stairwells. Flag upper-floor deliveries early.
Vehicles and Practicalities
Vehicles must be registered in Poland after establishing residence, which involves a technical inspection and payment of excise duty for imported cars. Right-hand-drive vehicles can be registered but headlights must be adjusted, and resale value is poor.
Pets need a microchip, rabies vaccination and an animal health certificate issued within 10 days of travel.
